Tips for engineering graduates
Let me give you a real example.
A graduate civil engineer I worked with years ago from nepal actually
Started in a small company.
Nothing flashy. No big name.
Just solid, consistent work.
He stayed there, he still is there
So what has he been doing ?
Year 1 → learning the basics
Year 2 → getting more responsibility
Year 3 → understanding projects deeply
Year 4 → stepping into leadership because he developed the trust of the managers to all the trades and subbies
Now? 4 years on he is a
👉 Project Manager. Stable. Trusted. Growing.
Compare that to the typical approach I see, you alreasy
Know what I am going
To say but remember this
You dont need to do this in fact it is more enjoyable in a company where there are
Little systems you have to do everything manually and talk more with others to learn the importance of systems and good comms
Because you learn why this helps companies grow so avoid
❌ Jumping between companies quickly
❌ Chasing big names early
No need
❌ Trying to accelerate too quickly, like trying to chase the wind
❌ Getting frustrated when it doesn’t work, yes wasting your precious time and not enjoying life which is why you choose the
Career in the first place
So do
Less and enjoy
The steps along the way ”
Remember you
You build it:
Step by step
Layer by layer
Experience by experience
And here’s the key shift:
❌ Don’t chase money early
❌ Don’t chase titles early
👉 Chase exposure
Because exposure gives you:
* Confidence
* Clarity
* Real skill
And once you have that…
Everything else becomes easier.
By the way it does not need to be difficult it can be fun getting work and meeting people
It’s not all that serious
