Tips for International Engineers & Graduate Engineers
Just recently literally within the last week another graduate secured work.
She had only been with me for a very short period of time, not even a month.
And the reason she secured the role might sound strange, but it’s very simple:
👉 She genuinely wanted work.
If I asked her to do 10 things, she didn’t do 7.
She didn’t do 9.
She went away and did 40+.
Some people will do most of what’s asked.
They think “7 out of 10 is good enough.”
It isn’t.
The people who:
• push themselves
• do the uncomfortable work
• and stay consistent
…are the ones who do well.
Getting work isn’t rocket science but it does require consistency.
What makes it hard is:
• not having results yet
• feeling exposed or rejected
• not having a clear methodology
And here’s the truth:
Even when you do have the methodology
(like what I teach in the GAP program),
👉 nothing changes unless you actually apply it.
When people apply it consistently:
• they get work in 3–6 months
• sometimes even sooner
• occasionally they get “lucky”
But luck always sits on top of effort.
One important distinction I see all the time:
🔹 Some people want work
🔹 Some people want permanent residency
They are not the same thing.
The people who:
• want the work
• want to live here
• and understand that PR follows good employment
…do far better.
Those who think:
“I’ll take any job for PR, then move later”
Almost always struggle longer than they need to.
Eventually, they realise this:
👉 It takes the same amount of effort to get a job you like as it does to get a job you don’t like.
So take the time.
Do it properly.
Apply yourself fully.
Consistency wins every time.
