Staying motivated can be challenging at times
If you are an international Graduate struggling to secure work, and it has been 12 months since graduating, from my experience, I know a few findings that impact your ability to secure work.
See if any of these resonate with you:-
- If you know you do not speak English well, it impacts your confidence to reach out to people proactively every time
- If you have not secured an interview in many, many months, & you are wondering why watch to see if you are becoming more and more reclusive and avoiding people because you feel embarrassed
- Avoiding means: You take on extra shifts at work to avoid seeking work in your profession
- Avoiding seeing friends who are working because it makes you feel inadequate
- Avoiding doing small things like improving your English, so you might find yourself wanting to hang out with friends who prefer to talk in their native tongue
6 To resolve these issues will require some time, especially if you start to be 2-3 or 4 years outside of graduation, so the longer you leave it, the harder it gets
- Physical signs you are avoiding things; you might be putting on weight and drinking more.
- Generally, you would say you are in poor health; you might also find you are getting sick more often from stress
- Most of us have all of do these things at some stage of our lives, but the key is to wake up and take ownership of them and then seek help
- Most importantly, it is easy to fix, first take ownership of what you are doing, and next
- Do think poorly of yourself with negative self-talk; if anything, pat yourself on the pat for acknowledging you have work to do
All the best, Mark Healy
