FOR INTERNATIONAL Engineering Graduates its all about timing

Timing!

Timing !!

Timing !!!

  1. You cannot make someone hire you, so learn to take a few deep breaths, and be patient, when a manager says stay in touch, stay in touch every 3-4 weeks
  2. If they say call next week, add 7 days to today’s date and call
  3. If they say we don’t have anything now, send me your resume and stay in touch, do exactly that
  4. Try to be less formal; you a graduate 🙂
  5. When you first graduate, you often do better online and over the first six months, then if you haven’t been successful, you start to lose momentum and confidence; this is more of a MINDSET than a condition of online applications, so be careful to stay focused

Sometimes you see this in SPORTS like in cricket; we say someone is out of form, so they give them some more time to get their confidence back and get counsellors or therapists involved to work on their SELF-TALK. 🙂 watch the -ve Self-talk it sneaks up on you

Some rules to follow

If you are ONLINE and have applied to a role, follow up, try to identify when the role closes.

Give it two weeks to Have your resume past around

Give them one week to organise an interview

Given the 2-3 weeks to make a decision

Two weeks and reference checks & medical

You could do all this in a shorter period but use this as a ballpark schedule of events to follow.

OFFLINE and networking

Post Resume submission and the obligatory phone call, aim for a face-to-face,

This can result can be an on-the-SPOT job hire, specially right now; I have witnessed then many times, then allow 2-3 weeks for medicals and paperwork to be finalised, do not expect an interview.

Networking is FAST! But it’s not for everyone.

If you take the time however to develop your professional relationships, work will follow, and it’s easy to do even for a graduate.
