This morning I was dealing with a few Young International Engineers who are also looking for work, so we focused on the motivation to secure work and what other concerns they had as well.
When it comes to international and domestic engineers who have recently graduated or have been struggling to secure a role for a while, I suggest you focus on becoming much more proactive.
Although there is a shortage of skilled people in Australia, ideally, companies want people with the skills they need. I am sure you understand why, so instead of saying, well, how do I get experience if they will not give me a chance, the answer is simple, it’s through your network, you must have this is the place first for the opportunity to present itself.
So, If you are meeting people, they will consider you for a role providing you are demonstrating a can-do attitude, which is impossible to do by simply sending someone a resume.
So be proactive, not reactive, and get offline; you will thank me later.
Work on your confidence to want to network first, so sneak up on the idea of networking, then eventually, when you feel more confident, you will meet people and secure work
