Tips to Secure work -Networking is the Key plus self confidence
I often talk about Networking with people and how crucial it is to securing work
The key with Networking is confidence in your own ability or self-belief
So if you have somehow managed to get past the point of texting or emailing people and you are spending more time on the phone than anything at all, you will be a lot closer than you realise to secure work but of course, if you have no confidence you won’t do this for fear of embarrassing yourself or wasting other peoples time
A SIMPLE scenario that I use:-
Ten plus years ago now, someone asked me to talk about a weekend away we had with THIESS, it was a team-building weekend on the gold coast, Being Blue it was called and when we returned the HR manager asked me to tell others about the weekend at a social event, I agreed, however, I basically completely forgot about it until 5 minutes before I was due to speak
At that very moment Fear kicked in and I also felt stupid and embarrassed, and right AT that point I said to myself I have two ways to address this,
1. Either from a fearful perspective OR
2. Embrace the opportunity and go for it
So I gave the speech from the 2nd point of view and to my surprise several people complimented me, and I was somewhat shocked, the key was embarrassing the unknown and simply realising, you have everything to gain and nothing to loose
Do not be scared to speak out, it is healthy and normal to feel uncomfortable, with emotions such as FEAR, you can simply overrule these emotions with the choice to do so, and see it as an opportunity to grow and learn
