If you want an engineering-related role over the Christmas period,
you cannot begin looking in November.
By then, you are already late.
Every year, students tell themselves:
“I’ll start in October.”
Then October becomes November.
November becomes two weeks before Christmas.
They send a few applications, nothing happens, and they say:
“I really tried.”
But applying intensely for two weeks is not the same as preparing properly for three or four months.
Preparation means:
• Choosing the sector you want to enter
• Learning what companies in that sector actually do
• Building a targeted company list
• Emailing engineering managers
• Calling and following up
• Finding out who may need undergraduate support
• Having conversations before a position is advertised
Many international students already work approximately 24 hours per week in hospitality, retail, warehousing or another casual role.
What if some of those hours could eventually be spent working inside an engineering company?
Even one or two days per week could give you relevant experience, industry contacts and potentially a pathway into full-time employment after graduation.
But you must start creating those opportunities now.
Not in November.
Preparation begins long before you need the job.
