If you graduated in July 2025 and haven’t secured an engineering role, your employment gap has now passed one year.
If you graduated early in 2025, it may be approaching 18 months.
You might say:
“But I haven’t been actively looking for that entire time.”
Unfortunately, an employer still sees the period since graduation.
The gap does not mean you are incapable.
It does not mean you are unemployable.
It does not erase your degree, your previous experience or your potential.
However, it may indicate that your current approach is not creating enough opportunities.
Time passes whether you are actively looking or not.
The solution is not to become embarrassed about the gap.
The solution is to begin filling it with evidence of progress:
Sector knowledge
Technical preparation for existing Practical projects
Starting Industry conversations
You cannot change the date you graduated.
But you can change what you do from today onwards.
