🌏 Tips for International Engineers & Graduate Engineers in Australia
One of the biggest mistakes I see is being too passive in the job search.
✅ After an interview – don’t sit and wait.
If you’re not sure where things stand, get on the phone. You’ll get more clarity in 3 minutes on a call than in 3 emails. Ask directly:
“Do you think this will proceed, or should I keep looking?”
Confidence in communication is part of demonstrating leadership potential. If you can’t confidently call people, how will you lead teams or manage projects?
✅ Don’t rely only on online applications.
Getting one interview a week online is tough. But through networking, you can easily talk to 20–30 people a week and line up interviews consistently.
✅ Always keep momentum.
Don’t let your pipeline run dry. If you leave an interview today, get back to networking tomorrow. You should never be sitting around waiting for one outcome. If one opportunity falls through, you want another interview lined up within days.
✅ Chase projects, not job ads.
Jobs exist where projects are happening. Stick to your sector, build subject knowledge, and know how you add value to those projects. That’s how you sound professional and credible.
👉 Bottom line: You’ll be disappointed if you sit back and wait. But if you stay proactive, confident, and consistent, you can move from one interview to the next and land the right role faster than you think.
