Recently, several of our graduates secured engineering roles across chemical, electrical, mechanical and civil engineering.
Every result matters but one of them really made me stop and think.
This young engineer had been trying to secure his first opportunity since 2023.
Three years of applications.
Three years of rejection.
Three years of wondering whether his engineering career would ever begin.
He was eventually referred to me by another graduate who had previously secured a role in electronics and mechatronics.
When he joined the program, we didn’t search for some “secret job” that nobody else knew about. That is not how it works.
He completed a couple of short courses, strengthened his understanding of the industry and learned how to speak confidently with engineering managers.
When I first met him, he had an engineering degree but he didn’t yet sound like an engineer.
Six months later, he did.
And now he has secured his first engineering role.
It isn’t with a large company, but that doesn’t matter.
He has started.
That first opportunity changes everything. It gives him experience, confidence, industry knowledge and something genuine to build upon.
Sometimes I move so quickly from one graduate to the next that I forget to stop and enjoy these moments.
This one deserves to be enjoyed.
Waiting three years and continuing to believe takes enormous courage.
Congratulations mate. You earned this one.
